Airport Body Scanners Are Not Legal

Airport Scanner Nudity – Friday Night with Jonathan Ross – BBC One

Recent introduction of body scannes in Manchester and Heathrow airport has already caused havoc across the UK. This introduction might be illegal as UK’s equality commission has suggested.

First of these scanner were revealed in Manchester airport in October 2009 and during this period many people were concerned about their naked body being seen by others inside the airport. Other concern was whether this images will be illegally printed especially celebrities images as people can print these images and do whatever they wish to with it. Recently bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan landed in Heathrow and when asked about the body scanner he replied back as a joke: “It’s good for security but it is embarrassing for people who are not well endowed, also he felt that it is an infringement on privacy rights”. And now there is a first controversy of body scanner which is about the bollywood star’s image being printed at the airport by one of the security staff. The report was denied by Heathrow airport on 10th of February 2010.

While SRK was going through the security post inside, outside in Heathrow parking thousands of fans gathered around to see the Bollywood star.

Meanwhile in Manchester many protestors gathered in Manchester airport parking protesting against the new security body scanners because they felt it contravene discriminations laws and infringe on privacy rights.

If proved illegal it is still a safe machine to be in place at airport security. Many airports do not have any security in parking building such as Birmingham airport parking, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and other airport parkings. There should be security around these areas as well as inside the airport. Building a machine to scan the car which enters the airport area would be a great addition to security in the near future. It can be designed to work in the same way the body scanner works. This machine will be designed to scan the body parts of the cars entering the airport parking. This will keep both airport and airport parking safe from terrorism.
